Rome nel mese di settembre. Mackenzie McDonald da anni elabora l'estetica robbiana con una incrollabile coerenza. Da vita al suo orto botanico abitato da animali esotici rielaborando la tecnica della maiolica storica della famiglia dei Della Robbia in una versione post-moderna con fuori uscita in area pop. L’esposizione a cura di Paolo Porelli si terrà nella galleria di C.R.E.T.A. Rome in via dei Delfini, 17 il 26 settembre 2025, ora 18:30.
C.R.E.T.A. Rome is pleased to invite you to the exhibition Orto Botanico by the artist Mackenzie McDonald (USA). The solo show presents works created during her residency at C.R.E.T.A. Rome in September. For years, Mackenzie McDonald has been elaborating the Della Robbia aesthetic with unwavering consistency. She brings her botanical garden inhabited by exotic animals to life by reinterpreting the historic majolica technique of the Della Robbia family in a postmodern version with pop accents. The exhibition, curated by Paolo Porelli, will be held in the gallery of C.R.E.T.A. Rome at Via dei Delfini, 17 on 26 September, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.

ORTO BOTANICO
Orto Botanico è un omaggio al giardino romano, dai giardini peristili dell'antichità ai vasti giardini curati dei palazzi dell'inizio dell'età moderna. Ispirandosi alla maiolica rinascimentale italiana, l'opera porta le affascinanti meraviglie del giardino nella galleria, accompagnando lo spettatore in un viaggio nella mente dell'artista.

Mackenzie McDonald è una ceramista e storica dell'arte americana che vive a Roma. Ha conseguito la laurea in Belle Arti presso il New York State College of Ceramics dell'Alfred University e un master in Storia dell'Arte presso la John Cabot University di Roma. Nel 2020 Mackenzie è stata artista residente presso Project Art a Cummington, Massachusetts, e nel 2022 è stata residente presso C.R.E.T.A. Roma. Ha ricevuto il premio Best in Show per la sua mostra di tesi di laurea, “Garden Variety”. Sia la sua pratica artistica che la sua ricerca sono incentrate sulla maiolica storica. A ottobre parteciperà al Programma di Formazione dei Musei Vaticani, dove continuerà la sua ricerca sui pavimenti in maiolica del Palazzo Apostolico.
Orto Botanico is a tribute to the Roman garden; from the peristyle gardens of antiquity to the vast manicured gardens of early modern palazzi. Taking influence from Italian renaissance maiolica the work brings the captivating wonders of the garden into the gallery, taking the viewer on a journey into the mind of the artist.
BIO
Mackenzie McDonald is an American ceramicist and art historian based in Rome. She earned her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and a Master’s in Art History from John Cabot University in Rome. In 2020 Mackenzie was a resident artist at Project Art in Cummington, Massachusetts and in 2022 she was a resident at C.R.E.T.A. Rome. She was awarded Best in Show for her undergraduate thesis exhibition, “Garden Variety.” Both her studio practice and research are centered around historical maiolica. In October she will participate in the Musei Vaticani Training Programme where she will continue her research into the maiolica pavements of the Apostolic Palace.
