"Incompiuta/WIP:

Art in the time of Covid-19"

DSC_0964.JPG

CRETA Rome presents the works in progress of four artists in residence in Spring 2020. With the declaration of the lock-down in early March, they were forced to abandon their work and returned to their home countries. This is the first exhibition of the year after the lock-down that signals the reopening of our exhibition activity. The artists present works primarily in ceramics but also a large work on paper.

Roberto Lugo who describes himself as a "ghetto potter and activist", and recipient of a Rome Prize at the American Academy of Rome in 2020, participates with a large portrait of Marcus Garvey on paper. The ceramic works of Nikhil Paladugu, both glazed and unglazed, are quasi modular and organic. Figurative artist Magda Gluszek took her inspiration from Rome's rich sculptural tradition whereas the Canadian potter Erin St. John experimented with Italian traditional maiolica technique in contemporary verse.

Presented during RAW 2020, the contemporary art week held every year in Rome.
