Happy birthday to today’s artist in residence Susan Schultz (USA) AIR 2016! Susan’s porcelain works are inspired by her environment. Susan discusses the works in her show “Mimesis & Memories”: “My work has its roots in the natural world. I collect and recreate found natural and manmade objects specific to a place, with great attention to detail. I find beauty in the ordinary and the overlooked. Human influence on the environment is a current subject, as is imagery from 16th and 17th century still life painting. The transient element of still life is there, as the moment has already passed and is but a memory.
For the past ten years, my work has been inspired by the ocean, and environmental issues. I am currently shifting my focus towards historic still life, exploring abundance and remains. My obsession with food and with all my senses is the inspiration for this work at c.r.e.t.a. Rome.”
